Question:
"How can a pastor help someone 'sense' God's presence in worship?"
Helping
people "experience God" is the work of the effective evangelist.
Here are factors we may consider:
We can create a sense of "nowness." Helping people
move from the past and other preoccupations into the moment
that allows the Spirit to touch them.
We can suggest the possibility of God's nearness. For example,
Gen. 28 tells Jacob who declared, "Surely the presence
of the Lord was in the place and I knew it not." We can
ask: Could God be near in this moment? We know by faith He
is. Can we let our senses be open to what our belief declares
to be true?
As leaders in worship our spirits must first be touched by
His Spirit. God's power and presence positively affects our
heart and countenance. We are more apt to introduce someone
to the Person we already know.
