Question:
Are the ministries of my local congregation designed
specifically to connect with the unconverted?
Many
church leaders would suggest their worship services connect
with the typically unchurched persons they know. Others
would tell of the ministries of compassion outside the church
building as truly connecting. Some would estimate people
living the life of Christ as a matter of routine have a
significant impact with unbelievers.
Whatever
the answer, churches that consistently grow by accumulating
spiritual novices generally shape most of their programs
around the unifying theme of reaching the unreached. Ministries
usually thought to be aimed toward the Christian, such as
Christian (pastoral) care, Sunday School and other forms
of education, prepare the Christian to interface with the
spiritually hungry.
Here
are some others things to do or ask:
Review
your personnel.
How many are inviting the unchurched to church?
How often do you hear your church people testifying to
unbelievers?
How
are your church members assimilating newcomers into the
fellowship?
What
ministries are designed to put the church, individually
or corporately, in a place to share their faith?
The
answer to these questions may provide a hint as to the need
for an evangelistic strategy. Your leadership team would
appreciate the opportunity to evaluate together how to increase
the evangelistic potential of your congregation.
